Its really great for blocking your view of the road. I just love it when one passes me and whips in right in front of me and all I can see is the back of a hummer. or when one parks beside me on pull in parking. all you can see of the road when you try to back out is hummer side. :( :(

It's only the H1 that is being discontinued. The H2 and H3 will still be produced, probably until the price of gas goes to $10. per gal.

They are too big for the city..... <br />Every now & then ya see one here... <br />They are just a shameless display of wealth in an urban setting, & the ones I have seen here I very much doubt have ever been off-road  <br />Did I mention that they are natural born road hogs? .....JK

Huge differences techno. The H1 is truly a civilian verson of the Humvee, proprietary and unique chassis, components etc. The H2 is a reskinned Tahoe and the H3 a reskinned Trailblazer. The H2 and the H3 are the stupid ones if you ask me. At least the H1 as some unique history and the connection to something special . . . :( I agree they're economically stupid, but again at least they aren't typical Big 3 reskinning stuff . . .

As the numbers get bigger...the truck gets smaller....in a nutshell.<br />(edit) QC answered your question much better than I.

I may be wrong and will check it out with my son but I believe that all 3 of them are made by American General which makes the military Hum-Vee. GM bought the rights to market them and owns the name "Hummer". All 3 including the military Hum-VEE uses the complete GM drive- train.

Re: Couldn't make it in civilian life

Just did a search and a cut and paste. It seems as though GM is building the H3 but not the H2<br /><br />Paste:<br /><br /><br />The H1 attracted well-heeled drivers looking for a military-style vehicle with an intimidating stance. For the 2006 model year, the H1 was offered as a high-performance H1 Alpha that costs about $130,000 to $140,000. The 2004 model year H1 sold at a base price of about $106,000.<br /><br /><br />The vehicle first was marketed to the public as the Hummer in 1992 by AM General, which also makes the military version. Under a 1999 deal, GM bought marketing rights to the Hummer name and called the vehicle the Hummer H1.<br /><br />AM General, which builds the H1, H2 and Humvee in Mishawaka, Ind., said it doesn't plan to cut any jobs as a result of the decision. It said workers there were expected to be shifted to military production.

GM does build the H2 chassis . . . they must put the bodies on it at Hummer<br /><br />"The new H2, rolling out in July of 2002 as a 2003 product, will use the chassis of GM's Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon wagons for a foundation, with multiple mechanical components including a humongous 6.0-liter V8 engine borrowed from full-size Chevrolet-GMC trucks."

Maybe we can get the Japs or Germans to build them cheaper.
