The gateway to wining this war is through Iran, i'm not advocating war nor appeasement with Iran, this is merely a view from a different perspective nothing more, nothing less.

Iran has been the greatest Benefactor from our actions in removing their enemies both the taliban in Afganistan and Sadaam in Iraq.

Iran will eventually go nuclear, that genie is already out of the bottle, too late, we were caught looking the other way.

However we should not allow the mistakes that the Carter administration made in stubbornly refusing to get behind the populace in their dire support for the ill fated shah during the revolution to be repeated.

This endeavour will have to take a new or different kind of carrot and stick approach with an immence amount of skilled diplomacy on our part.

The present nuclear non-proliferation treaty negoations taking place vis a vis Iran will not get anywhere with the Europeans involvement, the French and the Russians will surely see to that.

It will eventually come down to America having direct one on one talks with the Iranians.

What the Iranians are craving for most of all is international prestige, this they cannot hope gain without America.

They have seen the respect in the world that India has acquired since going nuclear, dispite the initial American trade sanctions.

They know that America will make foreign policy u-turns when it is in America's self interest.

They know that America is in a tight spot in Iraq.

The recent agreement between the present Iraqis government and the mullahs of Iran to have Iraqis troops trained in Iran can be an opening to an era of new disasters or something of significant benefit to all of the parties involved.
This game in a manner of speaking has a long long way to go before it is played out.

But I believe the US goal regarding Iran is to establish Democracy in Iraq. This end will provide an example of newfound Iraqi freedoms that their populace will enjoy, and the younger and more moderate Iranians will desire the same. At that point Iran will be much more receptive to the Democratic freedoms of that style of governance, and initiate a change to-wards that end internally. That accomplished, the US will then find it favorable to establish diplomatic relations with Iran, while being comfortable that Iran is no longer a threat.

Hi Pat, good to see that you are still around and posting :) i'm with you on the establishment of a democratic system, the major concern is candidates getting elected that are most detrimental to America's interests.
People like Mr Chalabi who greatly influenced our dicision in getting into this war, by covertly providing faulty intelligence on Iraq for quite a number of years to the all of the international intelligence agencies and services.

How did he accomplish this?
With the help of the Iranians who all along wanted Saddam gone.

Our dear Mr Chalabi obviously misread President George W Bush administration's foreign policy intentions towards Iraq, we wanted democracy and the rule of law to be Iraq's new dawn, not to install him "Mr Chalabi" on Saddam's throne.

Clearly "Plan A" the Iranian plan for Iraq backfired when Mr Chalabi got caught with the incriminating evidence and his fraudulent double-dealings were exposed.
The irony to this is Mr Chalabi ended up getting elected as a legislator in Iraqs current parliament :(

It isn't irony, it's called being rewarded for a job well done. The WH needed that "bad intelligence" to justify the war and he was the only one saying the things they wanted to hear, so they listened. He was also convicted of bank Fraud in Jordan around 1980. He fled the country and will serve 17 years in prison if he ever steps foot in Jordan again. Yeah, he was real credible from the start....
