I am running a 25h.p. Bigfoot that only maxes out to about 4500 rpm's. I think wide open is about 5600 r.p.m's. I changed to a Pontoon prop since it is on a pontoon and did not notice a great difference in rpm's.

My question is before I go to adjust the remote should I make sure that it is not a defective Tach in the dash? How likely is this? How else would you recommend that I measure rpm's?

Thnaks

Mike

Re: Could my indash tach be defective?

Hi Mike, don't panic. Let's take this one step at a time. Trying to guess and/or estimate is a sure way to make it worse so how about a bit more info.

Is it a 2 or 4 stroke? How big and how heavy is the boat? What size prop did you have and what size have you got now?

If you suspect a faulty tach you will need to try a remote tach such as 'tiny tach' or a marine workshop, but that would mean a wet test which equals mucho $$$$$$$. Gotta know the WOT RPM's - no ifs or buts.

Aldo
