I have a 1970 Volvo Penta AQ120 inboard. Last weekend the engine ran great for the first half of the day. Midway through the day it wouldn't start. A jump did no good, so I banged on the starter with a screw driver. It sarted right up.

Once started, it ran fine at low rpms. Then the engine died when I got to 2000 rpms. I started it again and ran it at 1000 rpm. It ran fine, but as soon as I gave it more throttle the engine died again. Could this be air in the fuel line?

Air in the fuel line only effect diesel or engines using presurized fuel injection. Sounds to me like it might be somthing blocking your main jet in you carb. Take off the bowl(s) and clean with powertune. Also check your fuel line and filter for obstructions. Possible a dirty fuel cell. Good luck

Kev 79,

Thanks for the help. I wasn't aware that only diesel engines are effected by air in the line. Apparently neither is any of my friends at work since they all thought it was air.

Thanks again.

It could be sucking air through a leak in the fuel supply line somewhere rather than pulling it up from the tank.
