Planning to pick up a houseboat and tow mine behind...looking for smooth water to waterski/wakeboard. How far north are you allowed to go with the house boat?

Any other advice would be appreciated. I know that lake can turn into a hell hole when the wind comes up..

If you are going this weekend, you picked a good one with low winds meaning smooth water. Really haven't boated there yet but will soon and know many who do. Been to the marina, looks like good body of water and you can go either direction very far from what I've heard. Talk to people there and get some good ideas. It will be hot so water sports will be ideal way to cool off.

unfortunetly Lake Mohave is pretty narrow and small so wake waves get built up on the weekends...and the coves with sand get alot of people....if you go out of the marina and left towards Davis dam, just about a 1/2 mile out of the marina off to the left is a great cove with lots of sand beaches...thats a popular area...if youre out on a weekday you will enjoy it alot more than the weekends (packed) and unfortunetly theres almost always some joker pulling a tube behind thier boat 50 feet from shore makeing wakes so if you have a boat beached it gets nailed by rollers.....irritating

that I know of you vcan go as far as you please...just dont run out of gas
the river is pretty deep up to cottonwood cove....Ive had my depthfinder on while on the colorado out of cottonwood and its atleast 10feet deep at minimum below cottonwood.....

there's a beach about 2 miles up the lake, on the opposite side of the marina side of the lake....seems like a good area with some coves and such to drop anchor and play with your tube/waterskis etc

the farther north you go the colder it gets

I would reccommend going to Lake Mead and renting out of Hemingway...alot more lake and play areas to explore.....especially if its more than just one night....and the water is WAY WARMER! have fun!

Man Vegas, put down the beers . . . :D

He's going out of Cottonwood, so the go left thing takes him away from Davis and there ain't no houseboats at Hemenway. Callville and Temple Bar are it now.

I believe the farthest you can go North is Willow Beach, South you can go all of the way to Davis. Vegas is right about the colder water going north, btu the narrower sections do glass off pretty well depending on the wind direction which is generally out of the south all summer.

Thanks guys, been to Lake Mead a few times, it's nice but looking for something different.

Flew up the Colorado river last year and I liked what I saw north of Cottonwood, hence the motivation to check it out.

Thanks.

If you google Lake Mohave or laughlin, most of the sites have lake maps and they will show you how far up you can go. Was on Mohave last weekend out of Katherine's Landing and a monster monsoon came in Saturday night. Luckily I was in the hotel.

Any of the Colorado Lakes can do that ^^^^. Take heed!!! If you haven't been in one yet: a) you don't know how bad they are and b) you will . . . Big flippin' deal, especially with Houseboats.

There are some nice coves north of Cottonwood, but they can be far and few between. Check with the marina, or my favorite google earth. Once you get above MM42-44 the access to coves for houseboats isn't very good. I have a favorite cove around MM38 on the NV side, huge cove with good protection. I remember the same thing as QC on houseboat restrictions, nothing allowed above Willow Beach, MM52. I fish Willow Beach all the time and it's rare to see a house boat up that far. Most of the house boats I see are MM42 and on south.

When you beach the houseboat, make sure you are not exposed to south wind/waves. The wind and waves can come up in minutes and you don't want to be caught with one of those huge boats getting tossed around.

Have fun and be safe!
