Corrossion bubbles on Aluminium Hull

Hi, I have just bought a boat and there are some litle corrosion bubbles under the paint on the hull. They look a lot worse than what they are and when you scratch them and break the "blister"<br />it really isn't very deep. I would however like to treat them somehow. Is there any thing I should treat the aluminium with once i rub back the corrosion before I retouch/repaint the area?<br />or should I just leave them alone

Re: Corrossion bubbles on Aluminium Hull

Hi there. I own a 17' Sylvan DC that I bought new in 2000. I have notice the same thing on my boat. I figured this was normal wear as I used to own a really old 14' aluminum that I painted myself (used a good primer) and after a few years, these blisters emerged as well. However, I contacted Sylvan a few weeks back and they informed me this shouldn't happen. they offered to take the boat back this fall and repaint it. I agree that this is not ideal. As small as they are, it has easily slowed my boat by 10% of on the top end. I really don't think there is anything you can do you about on your own; would take forever anyway. But I don't think it's from corrosion and even if it is, it's trivial in its affect.

you've got to strip it right down to bare metal, they start again- follow the paint manufacturor's recomendations on primer and paint. The stripping is the hardest- and most important part of the job.Go to www.napierenvironmental.com and check out non toxic chemical strippers- won't burn your hands, no fumes. It was originally designed for stripping aircraft.

I'm really curious, what did the Sylvan factory people say was the cause of the blistering? I am experiencing the same thing on my Crestliner.
