corrosion question

I have a 99 Merc 125 Saltwater that is concerning me a bit. I've got some corroded bolts on the lower part of the powerhead and some bolts holding on accessories. Also the top and bottom of the mount where the engine pivots side to side are getting pretty bad at the top and bottom. I wash down the engine every time. I just had the engine serviced and the mech said the compression is fine and it ran well. Should I try and just wire brush these parts and paint them or do they need to be replaced (looks like labor intensive to remove and replace). Plan on using this motor for a few more years.

Dave

Re: corrosion question

Riggerdave,

Keep them coated with a light film of WD-40. It would also be prudent to coat them after each washdown.

Keep that pivot shaft greased. You do not want that to lock up.

Re: corrosion question

WD-40 will evaporate. Use crc 3-36 or equivalent. It will leave a light coat that will not evaporate.
