I purchased a 15 hp motor to be used as a kicker on my 22' Pursuit. I also purchased a BF225 as my main, they were both purchased new and rigged in 2003. I now have 450 hours on my 225 and approx. 100 hours(no hour meter) on the kicker. They both run great and have never given me any problems ever. The boat sits on a trailer outside my home and the motors are washed/flushed ever use (the boat is run in saltwater).

My question is the kicker is showing signs of corrosion (bubbles under the paint) where the lower unit connects to the outboard, this is not major(yet) but I would like to know if this is normal? Also should this be covered by warranty? Is there anything I can do to prevent this? Lube the bolted connections every month or so? Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Are the zinc anodes badly corroded or have they shrunk down to nothing? Replace them if you haven't already.

bf130,

I think the zincs are in good shape, but I will check that area. This motor sits outdoors on a trailer, not in the water. Also when running, 80% of the time this kicker motor sit up out of the water.

I think I would be talking w/the Honda dealer. I have a 93-95 15hp and there is no signs of corrision on the motor and it has had a lot (2-3K hrs) of saltwater usage. Sounds like maybe an exhaust leak or high temp in that area.
