Correct way to attach rope to pylon

OK, so I'm asking a dumb question so don't laugh. ;)

We just got a boat that has a Swivl-eze ski pylon that goes into the rear seat mount. I have not had a problem using it, but I'm not sure if I'm attaching the rope the correct way. I slip the loop of the ski rope over the whole pylon, and then take the loop from the front side of the pylon (facing front of the boat), and slip it back over the pin in the middle. This seems to hold pretty well, and it works with two ropes if I need it to. So is this the right way its supposed to work?

Second question... what way is the little pin supposed to face. It is angled and depending on how far I spin the pylon into the seat mount, I can have the pin angled toward the front of the boat, or toward the back of the boat.

Re: Correct way to attach rope to pylon

On the boat I had with the ring-top pylon, I would pass the loop in the rope through the ring from the back (stern), then spread the loop over the outside of the entire ring. Pull tight. Ignore the pin...which BTW should point toward the front.

I have seen several people literally laughed off the lake by doing this incorrectly. Their boating day ending in shame, and their entire family humiliated.

Actually I think it matters not a bit. Do what works for you so it doesn't fall off.

Thanks... that is a little different than what I was doing so I'll give it a try this weekend. My method was working, but wasn't sure if it was the most secure way.

I wouldn't want to have to leave the lake in shame... :) :) :)

Most folks I know, including myself do it the same way as convergent. It has worked fine for me, although, if I thrashed it like skibrain does, i might go with his way.
