CORRECT SPARK PLUG

I have a 2002 Volvo Penta 5.0 GL - A. I am changing out the spark plugs. I pulled the old plugs to see what I needed to order and they are AC Delco with the # 3 written on the ceramic. I have ordered a new set, but the tips do not appear to look the same. The new set that I receive are known as platinum rapid fire. I did buy this boat used, so I am going through everything before summer kicks off. The boat has run good with the current plugs. Does anyone know if this is the correct plug for this engine and if not what should be in it. I live on the Texas gulf coast and run the boat in local fresh water lakes if that makes a difference. Thanks for any advice.

Volvo part # 21467472 is the same as AC 41 - 101 iridium from what I was able to find. Can anyone confirm this? The AC 3 plugs that were in the engine does anyone know why these would have been installed?

If you want to spend the big $$ you can go with the iridium plugs but they would rust in the head long before they ever wore out. I have always used the AC MR43LTS plugs in both of my boats and all of my friends boats which I do most of the maintenance on and they work very well. Yes, they are a common copper plug, but these will also be changed out long before they ever wear out.

What I find strange is the GAP @ 0.035 for your model. The 41-101 is usually GAP @ 0.060 factory and you can't change the gap on these plugs (Iridium). Other models such as GL-B use the same part number GAP @ 0.060. Another Volvo spark plug confusion...

Ayuh,.... Agreed,.... The AC, MR plugs are alloy bodies, they don't rust for a long long time,....

'n, Ayuh,... Boaters change out their spark plugs, 'n coils much to often,.....

Fancy spark plugs are a waste of good fuel money,....

I prefer the copper plugs too but is the MR43LTS the correct replacement for 41-101? Do we know for sure longevity is the only reason Volvo call for Iridium in these engines?

While looking at Ebay for the Volvo 21467472, I see pictures of Volvo packaged spark plugs. The packages are for a set of 4. The Volvo labeling and the plugs themselves clearly show "AC Delco 41-101". The 41-101 is a direct replacement for the AC Delco 41-993.

Ayuh,.... I know it's a direct replacement, 'n the only reason for the fancy plugs is expense, 'n longevity,...

I seem to remember Don S. highly recommending iridium plugs for fuel injected engines of this year/model. For carbed versions (as in this case) he said iridium or copper would both work fine with no discernible difference in performance. But I could be wrong.
