Correct Shifting of Mercruiser 888 ????

Just a general question on shifting noise when going into foward or reverse. How much clicking or engagement noise should the clutch dogs make if the shifting cables and shift interupter switch are adjusted and working properly? I've readjusted mine to factory specs, but I still hear and feel some grinding of the clutch teeth. I guess I'm asking what the normal amount of noise generated by shifting from neutral into either foward or reverse is normal. Should it be totally silent (no discernable noise)???? Thanks Rich

Rich, my 888 has one solid clunk, then is silent, no grinding. Could your idle be too high?

I guess I'm too paticular about noises. My goes in with a solid clunk, then no noise. Sounds like it's normal. I just don't have anything to compare it to. I'm too used to cars, motorcycles and trucks......not shift interupter switches. Thanks Rich
