Correct RPMs at idle

I have recently just tuned up my 1991 OMC Ford 351 Windsor 5.8 motor I put new motorcraft plugs new distributer cap new button and new plug wires. I now notice my RPMs at idle have went up from 650 to about 730. I have only ran the boat while on the muffs, I have not taken it out on the water yet. My question is, do you think the motor RPM's are to high at idle. I have a electronic ignition I forgot to mention, thanks for the help in advance.

Do you have this plaque on your exhaust manifold? Even though it says "idle" it could be a good reference.

I have that same plaque on my carburator cover, so I guess it is idling a little fast. Do you know how I can turn down the idle.

Maybe try it in the water first. See if that offers some natural resistance that puts the idle in range. I think there should be an idle set screw on the carb that you can adjust very easily with a flat head screw driver. I will look at mine tonight too see.

One more thing to check is your timing. Maybe your distributor isnt tight and it was moved slightly when you did your cap. A small degree or two change can effect your idle. There are cheap timing lights out there and they are good tools to have.
