I am doing a first oil change on a 2012 Mercury, 60 HP, EFI 4 cyl., 4 stroke.
The factory installed oil filter is number 35-877768K01. I cannot find this number for a replacement. What I can find is 35-877761K01. Close but no cigar! Anybody else ever have this problem?

Re: Correct Oil Filter

That s/n comes up as:
MERCURY - ( 60EFI H.P. (2006) Note: 2006, not 2012
Serial No: 1C172014 Model No: 1A60413KZ. Gerry
Hi Gerry, just an update for you for future reference!

Any time you run a newer serial number such as this one, it's always going to come up as an 2006 from here on out as Merc has since stopped using or no longer uses engine years as a reference guide when looking most things up past 06 for outboard and 1998 1/2 on I/O's. They mostly only go by engine serial number now. Though they do keep an internal recorded of the engine year vs serial number for certain things on their end, they pretty much only want their dealers to go by serial number only. Which yes it's a pain in the tail as most would go by year as a quick reference to find something.

So sadly knowing the serial number starts off with 1C172014 by just keeping up with the serial number sequence tells me that this engine would be in the 2012 year range. While 1B should be 2011 and 1A was 2010.

Hi there, While 35-877768K01 is the OEM number from the factory I don't believe your going to be able to buy one easily mainly because Merc part number 35-822626K04 is the new service replacement number. One thing you should notice however is the new service replacement filter should be shorter in length while everything else appears to be about the same.

The other number you found 35-877761K01 seems to fit a little bit bigger engine models such as,
100 EFI (4-STROKE)
115 EFI (4-STROKE)
150 (4-Stroke)
75 EFI (4-STROKE)
80 EFI (4-STROKE)
90 EFI (4-STROKE

While 35-822626K04 will fit,
25 (4-STROKE)
30 Carb (3 CYL.)(4-STROKE)
30 EFI (3 CYL.)(4-STROKE)
40 Carb (3 CYL.)(4-STROKE)
40 EFI (3 CYL.)(4-STROKE)
40 EFI (4 CYL.)(4-STROKE)
40 EFI (4 CYL.)(4-STROKE)(JET)
50 EFI (4 CYL.)(4-STROKE)
60 EFI (4 CYL.)(4-STROKE

Thank you for bring this up. I was using the 1A, 1B, 1C more of a reference point to help narrow down the years but unfortunately they do not coincide with an exact year like I was thinking they did earlier as there could be many year models that use the 1B****** before moving on to the 1C****** serial number range like seen here for example. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectSerailRange.asp?doc_nbr=60+EFI+(4+CYL.)(4-STROKE)

Your are correct as your engine (1B419432) was made in 10/06 and the OP's (1C172014) was made in 10/2011.
