Hey Corm,
I do have a transom mounted transducer, will that cause the spray. What harm will the spray cause? The engine is in the lowest setting but the cavitation plate is about 1/2" above the bottom of the boat.

Your problem. Yes a transducer will cause a lot of water spray. If it is mounted to close to the prop it will also displace the water that the blades need to run in and cause some loss of speed and cavatation.
You could take it off for a quick trip and see if the side spray is gone. If it is then
maybe it could be mounted in the bilge area
inside the boat. Or moved higher on the transom, to flush with the bottom of the boat. Transducer location is very dependant on the boat hull type and material.
The motor seems to be mounted fine, so go with the transducer 1st. If you still have the problem let me know what brands you have.

------------------
...have fun...corm

cubic inches = power
power = speed
speed = FUN

Email me if you need to.
