Core Plug Update

Ok, the core plug is replaced (without nudging the engine with dad's help). The external crack weeps about a gallon every 2 hours once the block is at op-temp. Win.

Now I have another issue...when you start the engine, you can go forward or into reverse, but when transitioning from one to the other, the neutral switch kills the engine. I can bypass the switch and everything works, but for safety reasons I need it working. I've seen posts on this before but my searches came up empty. Can I adjust it or is it a cable issue?

Re: Core Plug Update

Howdy,

I had to look for your other post to figure out what you have. for future posts you might include make model etc.....

Most of the time the engine quitting coming out of gear is due to binding in the shift cable or drive shift mechanism itself.

The drive should shift before the engine quits.

You'll want to inspect the cable and drive for binding cable etc...

Cheers,

Rick

And by the way, that "neutral" switch is actually a shift (ignition) interrupt switch. It interrupts torque so you can get a dog-clutch drive out of gear,

Ayuh,... Agreed,... The Neutral switch ain't the problem, it's in the controller, 'n only effects the startin' circuit, not the ignition,...

Hopefully Capt Ken will see this 'n tell ya where to find the binding that's goin' on....

Merc or Omc, you'd look to the lower cable,... Donno 'bout yer's...

Re: Core Plug Update

HT32, I thought about that after I posted & my phone wouldn't let me edit the post.

Bond-o, that's the plan...oil levels steady after running for a couple of hours so I plan on "gluing it together" for lack of a better term.

Re: Core Plug Update

You probably have a stiff shift fork in the drive. You will need to pull the drive and see where the stiffness is. We carry the parts in stock that will be needed
