I bought a doner lower half 4hp Johnson to convert my motor to long shaft. Do the conversion kits generally include a new cooling tube or a piece to extend the original? I am debating if I should make an extention or try and remove the longer tube from the 4hp Johnson. I am dealing with a 4hp 1985 Johnson, external tank model.

Thanks

Derek.-

Hi Dman
There were three or four 4Hp models available around that era. You fail to state which model you have. At any rate, the water tubes on all models have a fairly sharpe bend at the top and then slide into a rubber grommet. If you pull stright down on the tube from the bottom of the exhaust housing you may break the tube. I would suggest removing the power head so you can get the correct angle on the tube for removal. If you bought just the lower leg section with no power head you should be able to see this clearly.

I have the power head off, I jsut wasn't sure if that tube was pressed in or if it was glued in or something like that. Thanks for the input.

Derek.-
