I have a 1989 125 force outboard. I trying to firgure out why no water is coming out of the telltale. I hook up a water psi to the tell tale and barely reads any pressure.I also put a temperature gauge on it and reads barely 160 degree. You can put your hand on the head for more them 5 second and does not feel head. Water is pumping out of the pee hole. The water is alittle hot but not enough to burn your hand.I ran the boat with ear muff and in the water with the same result. Check for blockage in the telltale hole. Could the themostat restrict the flow to the telltale port.

Re: Cooling test

What's the matter you didn't like my answer the first time? Is the impeller new? Did you check for a thermostat?
If the impeller is fairly new,you might need to replace the thermostat(if there's
one in there it might be frozen open). The thermo makes a back pressure along with the pressure relief in the bottom of the motor (pressure reliefes are sometimes taken out as they clog in salt water). That causes the guage to read.
If your alarm is going off then change the impeller. If you put a telltale in and a guage there may not be enough pressure to make the guage work. Jerry
