I am working with a 1998 5.7L ALPHA GEN+ engine paired to a 1998 ALPHA ONE GEN 2 outdrive. This boat has been sitting for a few years, and I am clueless when it comes to mercruisers. I have been warned that the exhaust manifolds might be clogged. How do I go about checking for this?

I did crank the motor. It started, and I shut it off.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Cooling System test

Pull the hoses off the bottom of the manifolds and try to push water through them. If it runs through without too much back pressure, pull the elbows off the manifolds, blank the end of the manifolds and check that it holds pressure. If they passes those 2 tests, you're good to go...

Don't forget to change the water pump impeller before you run the engine. Since the engine's been sitting for a few years, the impeller's most likely taken a "set" and is basically useless. Hy
