Hi I was wondering if it is possible to put a single prop lower unit on a dual prop Volvo outdrive and if so can any Penta lower unit be put on it.

Why would you want to do that? The dual prop setup is much better.

all you need to do is read the manual. It will tell you not to run with 1 prop.

That's not what he asked. He wanted to know if he could change the lower unit.

It can be done, the opposite is done all the time (SP to DP). I will apologize now for not knowing what all drives are compatible for the swap. You do need to post exactly what you have.

Year, drive type (280 or 290), engine (AQxxx), etc.
Size of boat may change the advice also.

You might post the reasons behind what you are wanting this swap to do for you. You may find other advice on how to keep what you have and fix whatever is there to get you to where you want to be.

Re: converting Volvo Penta dual prop to single

Thank you for all of the replies and help the reason I'm asking is because there is a boat that I'm trying to buy with a 4.3 GM and a Volvo Penta DP outdrive but it is missing the lower unit and the dual prop lower unit is harder to come by and cost more than a single prop unit, so I was wondering if and what kind of single prop lower unit I could put on it if I bought the boat since I'm trying to take the cheapest route

I have a feeling the cheapest route would be to get a boat that works. There could be more problems if the out drive is not all together.

With that information there is no way to answer your question, except to say a single prop lower unit can be installed in place of a DP.
But without knowing what year, model drive you have. It's impossible to say which ones will fit. You also have to find one with the correct gear ratio.

Then, what shape is the upper gear box in, why is the lower missing.
You could be wanting to buying a whole load of problems you can't afford.
If you don't know anything about boats or mechanical things, find something to buy that actually runs. It will be cheaper in the long run.
