Converting to short shaft

I just aquired a Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke long shaft-how hard would it be to convert it to short shaft? Also, how do i measure shaft length? Thanks-Tad

Shaft length is measured from the top of the transom (i.e., the underside of the clamp assembly that rests on the top of the transom) to the top of the anti-ventilation plate above the prop. Chances are, your newer 9.9 cannot be easily converted to a short shaft -- but wait for additional responses.
