My trusty twenty hp 1978 Merc runs like a top. I would like to install an electric starter since arthritus is causing me some problems now. What would be involved in doing this conversion ?? The mount for the starter is on the engine the rest is needed.

Re: Converting to electric start

I have a '79 that I tried to convert but was unable to find a geared flywheel for it. Maybe I didn't look long enough - don't know. Didn't care about recharge - just elec. start. Last resort I bought a used '82 25hp electric - best thing I ever did for my body. Four pulls was all I could do at a time on my 20 - really tough.

:)
