I have a early 70's 55 hp Chrysler short shaft motor and want to know if it is possible to convert it into a long shaft. If so what do I need.

You need a longer driveshaft, A middle leg extender, an extended watertube and an extended shift linkage. I believe I have everything but the extended water tube from a lower unit I got on ebay. If you are serious about doing this let me know and I can make arrangements to get these parts sent to you.

I dont want anything for the parts. I just need the drive shaft so I can keep my spare unit sealed. The water tube is going to be a problem because I doubt they still make them. Email me at ralgoetz@comcast.net. I will send you the parts first and if they work you can send me your old drive shaft. I will get back to you later when I find all the stuff. We moved a month ago and I have everything scattered.

Hey thanks for the offer on the parts but I no longer need them. I talked to a local Boat Junk Yard here and they have everything I need. I made a trade with them for a dead motor I have and controls for the parts I need plus they will install them on the motor.

Thanks again for trying to help.

Re: Converting Short Shaft to Long Shaft

Thats great. IF memory serves me correctly the shifter extension is similar to the shift adjustment in the motor leg. I have accumulated a few things on my chrysler that I will never need. I have been given parts from others on this forum so I try to return the favor. I wish you luck.
