New to the forum and this is my first post. I like what I see so far. Any way this is my question. How hard is this to do or can it even be done economically?

I've wondered every since I bought my boat in 2000 if this can be done.

The dealer has a very fast and easy conversion for these. Take the motor to him and hand him a check, he will quickly give you a 250hp motor.

Sorry about that, but the topic comes up frequently about increasing HP from one range to the next on similar motors. Occasionally it can be done easily, most of the time unless you're very serious about it the cost isn't worth the extra HP. Unless you have fine tuned your current set up for absolute best performance the 25HP may make little difference.

BUT: Since it is an EFI engine, the change might just be a couple of hundred for a new Computer Chip. That's a question to ask the dealer service department. A good mechanic will know and will tell you. Try the same question at the mercury forum here.

If you have the 3.0 liter EFI and not a Optimax all it takes is a $700 ECU box.

Thanks for an answer! I thought this was what I was told a couple years ago but couldn't remember what needed to be changed out.

I plan on getting back to fishing tournaments again and when running Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn that extra speed could mean more fishing time.
