With the water pump taken care of (see my other thread) It was time to start dealing with other maintenance and upgrades. One the items on my list was to upgrade the steering ram from a crusty, worn out older style to the new type which required removal of the exhaust elbow I decided that now is the time to replace the exhaust. I bought the boat in 2012 and it has been used in salt most its life before I got it, I have not idea how old they are. My plan is to convert to dry joint system as it just seem to be a much better designed system. I have all the parts to do this conversion and so far all look good. The picture shows it mocked up.

My engine serial # is in my signature file but my engine has hoses from the Thermostat housing going to both the bottom of the Manifold and into the elbow as shown here. I was told by as Merc dealer that with hoses top and bottom to use a restricted gasket and if only one hose to bottom manifold use open gasket. Mine has both so using a restricted gasket.

So my question is what side of the manifold does the restricted side of the gasket go? In the attached diagram it shows on the output side. Is this correct?

As always any info is greatly appreciated and have a great evening.

According to what I find is the hole goes to the highest side of the manifold, which in most cases is in the front

Thanks for the info AD, Here is what I found in Manual 31

IMPORTANT: The restrictor end of the gasket must be positioned to the seawater inlet side of the exhaust elbow.

This still puts it to the front correct. As stated on my set up I have hoses that go from the top of the thermostat housing to the elbow with no risers. I just wish the parts diagram did not contradict this and show it towards the back?? I don't want to do it wrong as the gaskets are quite costly.

Oh and by the way every time I stick my hands anywhere near this GM Engine it bites me, this time a smashed thumb nail and big scratch down my arm . I think it does not like the fact that there is a MOPAR in my garage. LOL

No Title

As I kept reading I found this page, it is pretty clear. Even I can't mess that up.
