I am converting from a Volvo Penta 270 to a 280T and have been trying to find a parts list/diagram for everything needed. I have the 280shop manual, but it doesn't talk much about the 280T. Currently all I have is a 280T transom shield and would like to use as much of my existing 270 gear as I can becouse it is in great shape. Any one done this conversion and have a parts list or helpfull information would be greatly appreciated

I believe that you can get the 270 intermediate, upper and lower, to fit the T suspension fork, but there will be some T drive rubber components that will be all but impossible to find.
You may want to give this more thought.

There is a 280 PT drive that would work and give you power trim, or go to the 290 drive.

Re: Converting from a Volvo Penta 270 to a 280T

I am confused between a 280 T and a 280 PT. The transom shield I have has the 2 trim cylinders on the side and connect to a trim brace and is designed for the single prop 280 drive. All I can find on a 280 PT is a Duo-prop. Is this correct? Thank You. I appreciate your help. I was able to locate a parts diagram for the 280 T and my old Seloc repair manual does have some information on the 280 T drive which also helps.

Hope This works. Here is a picture of the transom shield I bought on EBAY280 T.jpg

This is a 280 PT transom shield not a 270/280 T.
Of the two this would be a better choice.

You should be able to remove the pivot tube and substitute the other intermediate and upper and lower.
Don may know for sure if this will work but I'm fairly sure that it will.

Be sure to use the special big orings on the mounting bolt shanks.

Okay, I got the transom shield, the hydraulic rams and the trim brace. Now I am looking for the other pieces on ebay but I have 2 questions for anyone that has done this type of conversion. My parts diagram don't really show this.

1. On the transom shield, one hydraulic fitting sits inside the rubber seal and the other sits outside the seal (each cylinder)--What seals this outside hydraulic fitting. I don't see any gaskets or o-rings listed, just a spacer plate. Do you just silicon seal it and hope for the best or what.

2. The trim sender looks like it goes where the power tilt goes. Is the correct.

I want to thank all of you for your input and help
