The title says it all.
There used to be a conversion kit on the market, but they are very few and far between.I found one on a barter meeting of old outboard lovers, but I was grossly outbid by at least four people.
Did anybody ever try to jerry rig a remote setup?Have you ever seen one?If you have, could you please describe it?
This is for one of the very few long shaft 9.5's and I do not want to start drilling holes in this cream puff until I really understand what the best way to do this really is.
As always, thank you for your opinions, comments and other help.

That set would work on the older Evinrudes ,I know it well.
The problem is that the 9.5s no longer have the vertical throttle rod with the little sprocket on the bottom and that has the small extension to hook up a cable. The throttle unit is on the other side of the flywheel and comes across at the front end straight into the tiller arm.

The Remote control kit is Part # 171879 – that includes the shift lever, throttle rod, and steering arm.

There is also a top mount throttle control kit - part # 171796.

If you want the steering connector for rope or cable, it is part # 377440.

If you go to the BRP parts site and skip to the "search" window pick list and select "advanced", then enter only 171879, you can see what is involved.

Thanks Ezeke!
I talked to the guys in sea way marine and they hooked me up with a brand new set, and here comes the good part, only for a third of the price that Twin City outboards wanted to charge me for a second hand one that they would have to pull together.
I'll keep you updated when I get it in.

Thanks for sending me that link Tashasdaddy, I have a 1957 35 hp tiller/remote setup in much the same way, except that I still use the cable steering system.
It is on its original boat,a 1957 16 foot Herter's
