Alright I know this really is a other brand outboard question, but my thread there isn't getting very far.

I have an Aqua Bug 1.75hp outboard, tanka motor used on a lot of lawn equipment.

I can't find points for less than $50, which is a bit high since everybody sells points for around$10.

Does anybody know how to convert a little motor like this to not need points?

You can try electronic from a tanaka 46.5 cc trimmer.....its close.......why don't you open the points and lightly sand them ,blow them off regap and go

I tried that and it ran great then it didn't

I think it's the spring metal piece that really is the problem, it's got a kink in it.

I'll look at that trimmer part, thanks

ANY time you sand or file points, they have a very, very short life expectancy after that. Sanding and filing is only good to see if it will run, then you put in new ones.

If you look around on the net you may find a pointless ignition kit for that engine.
