I have a 1984 4HP Johnson Sea Horse s/shaft(BJ4BRCRM) which works well, I have heard these can be converted to l/shaft. Is this correct,is it easy to convert, where would I get one and how much would it cost. Thanks.

Re: Converting 4HP Johnson from short to long shaft

shop quoted me 200 bucks to go from long to short on my 15 johnson. to bad yours is a 4 or I would trade you for parts. I would imagin its close to the same price either way.

to make your motor a long shaft, you need

longer drive shaft
longer water pipe comming off the pump
longer gear shift linkage.
and the 6 inch spacer that will make your motor a long shaft.

I think that is pretty much it. I would ask around for someone to trade parts with. or flat out trade motors with to get what you want.

hello, i am considering converting to a short i have a long shaft on mine with a extra sleeve and i would consider a trade,

what type of a boat do you have that you feel you need a long shaft. I have a 14 ft v hull aluminum so i thought a short would be better, but i just bought the motor today and not been out yet with it.

I think mine is belgium made i think that is what the b after the 4 means but correct me if i am wrong

my model# is j4brhcrm

why is there a b in front of your model number

and why don`t you have a h before your c

i was told that mine was an addon kit.
