New to the board, so have mercy. I looked and couldn't find anything regarding this motor and procedure. I'm told this is a matter of changing jets or reeds in carb. This this true? If not, what EXACTLY needs done and what is the approx. cost from a service center? I'm very happy with this motor, but have a "need for more speed".

Thanks ahead of time

Look for a restictor plate between the carb. and reed plate and/or throttle linkage that does not go to WOT.

Thanks for the reply, Djohn19!. Have you had experience with these motors? What exactly is "WOT" mean?

I removed the carb tonight, and I believe I saw the restrictor plate in front of the "fine mesh" reeds facing me. After this restrictor plate is removed, does the motor have to be "tuned" again?

You can't make the 9.8 into a 15hp. Two completely different blocks are used for these motors. Now if it's the old NS9.9 (not 9.8), then it's a different story because the 9.9 and the 15 used the same block. The only difference between those models was a throttle cam. But the 9.8 cannot be made into a 15 no matter what you try (the 9.8 was a beefed up 8hp)
