I have just bought a boat with a Vovo AD41A 200hp on the port side and a TamD41M-A 179hp on the starboard side both installed as inboard. The specification for the Tamd41 170hp is exactly the same as the 200hp.Does anyone in the forum know if it is possible to upgrade the 170hp to 200hp.The main difference is on the top engine speed.170hp is 3250 and 200hp is 3900.Bore,stroke and compression are both the same.I was suggested to change the ingection pump........Anyone can help?

thanks,
Richard

Re: convert volvo TamD41M-A 170hp to 200hp

The injection pumps are different, the injectors are different, timing is different. The turbos are the same.
I would also be thinking about the rpm difference due to the transmission. It may not be designed to handle the extra rpm of of the AD41A.
The AD41A was set up to be used on an outdrive, not an inboard.
May or may not be an issue, but something to think about.
The 41A's were used from in 88 and 89, the Tamd was used from 94 to 2001.
I've rebuilt many of the 41 series engines. Great engine.

Thanks,
The transmission gearbox are the HS1,engine run fine, temp gauge on 170hp slightly higher but not in the danger zone.Do you think it the expense of the conversion....that is if I can have it done.........will be justified in performance and balance?

thanks again,

Richard
