Convert Tohatsu Short Shaft to Long Shaft

So I think I'm going to pull the trigger and buy a 20HP Tohatsu outboard short shaft this week. I have an older 14ft aluminum boat that I'm not crazy about but I can't afford to upgrade the boat just yet. I plan on keeping my new Tohatsu for many years. If I later buy a different boat that needs a long shaft, can I convert my outboard to accommodate it? How much does something like that cost? Thanks

"Expensive" and insane if going for new parts...check second hand engine with fried power head or used engines at boat yards.
