I just purchased a 1997 Larson 176 Flyer with a Volvo 4.3 I/O. I knew it had a bad motor, but the previous owner failed to tell me that it hadn't been winterized. So, what I'm dealing with a bunch of cracked hard parts.

The intake is cracked, and my options are...
? Replace with a used stock intake-$???
? Replace with a new Edelbrock Aluminum $250
? or replace it with a used TBI unit $250

Is it worth it to try and use the complete used TBI setup that I have found, or is carbureted a better way to go?

I'm not familiar with the TBI setup, but I am very familiar with traditional carb systems, so I'm unsure of the quality and reliability of the TBI setup.

My main goal of the boat is not performance, but reliabilioty and eas of driving.

Thanks, Cory

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.. I was going to say,.. "Sure, If you get ALL of the pieces"...
But,..
Then I finished reading your post....

Buy the Edlebrock,+ Enjoy it,.... As long as you're boatin' in Freshwater, or have a Closed cooling system...

Boatin' in Saltwater, raw water cooled, means you need a Cast Iron manifold....

Re: Convert from Carb to TBI on Volvo 4.3

:D Ive actually tried to go the other way, from TBI to carb...in the end i just couldnt take off all of that high priced tech and watch it set. Doing a TBI system that was not designed for the exact motor it was being placed in would be a large project...Not so much in the hardware but the software programming is labor intensive and expensive if you cannot program it your self.

Now if you must..there's the begining of mefi programming...Nice little prep thread..:D

The actual programming software

If you still are thinking along this line MEFI-4b is probably the way to go . It use's a OS sensor makes tuning much eaiser.

At this point dropping on a carb would to easy and to sensible..;)
