it is possible but you have to change the flywheel and purchase the recoil start mechanism. It could be quit an expense.

I heard that batterie's are not alway's the most reliable, especially in cold or damp weather, maybe it's not worth the hassle though and just use the emergency start if I run into trouble?

I'm not a big fan of bulky expensive electric start components
(battery, cables, starter, controller...etc etc)

budget boating requires a pull-start

I have never heard anyone on here wanting to convert from electric to manual is all. Batteries are very reliable nowadays, as long as it is properly cared for and maintained. The money that it will cost you to convert is not really "budget boating" as previously stated. It would take years of maintaining the electric start to cover the cost I would think.

The only real maintainence I have on my starting circuit is spending a half hour every spring to remove all connections, file them to a shine, then re tighten, and oil my bendix.

Re: Convert electric start to manual?

Soooo many people out there would want the electric start, Im sure someone would swap him parts.

whenever I get a motor with a long shaft, I remove all the long shaft components, and list them on ebay with a buy it now for $200.
Then, I explain in the ad, that I'll fully refund the cost if the buyer mails me back his short-shaft stuff (if its in similar condition)

I have done this 3 times.

I would never do it with the parts he would need to trade. replacment cost is just to high.

I would just rope-start the thing.

you already have manual start, you wrap a rope around the flywheel and give er a pull! There are notches in the flywheel for this.

Re: Convert electric start to manual?

So in conclusion,it would not make sense to do this because of cost and it is a little redundant already having the emergency pull start. Thank's alot to everybody for their input.:)
