Conversion to electric start

I picked up a brand new 1976 Mercury 50 still in the crate, manual start. I have a 1984 Merc 50 electric start with a cracked cyl. head. Has anyone ever converted a manual start to electric? Are the parts interchangeable. Thx for the help
