Controls swap?

I was wondering if the controls from a 1985 90hp Johnson would work for a 1979 Chrysler 70hp? All I need is for the shift and throttle cables to work because I have a dash mounted Ignition on the Chrysler. I hate the Chrysler controls and would love to mount the OMC unit. I also plan to mount the Johnson on the boat within the next few months when I am done restoring it, so having the controls mounted ahead of time will get me ahead of the game.

don't really know diddle about a chrysler, but if the ends are the same and the distance throw the same they should work. you can even change the engine ends and try it.
