1988 Sea Ray 16 ft. 100 HO mercury OB. I know this may be a silly or amateur question but what is the wedge shaped button on the top of the throttle handle for? What is the lower square button for?

Frank - What control do you have? It could be original or aftermarket. Can you post a picture?

The wedge shaped sounds like trim, but there are usually a pair for up/down and the square could be for throttle only.

Looks to be original. There is a trim switch on the throttle handle plus a "trailer" button below that.. The large square button on the bottom of the handle reads "Throttle Only". Curious about it and the wedge at the top. BTW, engine starts, idles and runs well.

Throttle Only lets you give it more gas for warm up but keeps the motor in neutral. When you pull the handle back to neutral, the button should pop out and you can shift gears again.

The wedge I'm not sure about. Can you move the handle without pushing the wedge? Some controls have a neutral lock that needs to be pressed to move the handle out of neutral, but those are usually under the grip.

Does the control have any ID like Mercontrol or Commander?

The push button does exactly that: allows you to rev the enginel and pops out when you shift back to neutral. Still not sure what the wedge shaped control at the top of the handle does.

Quicksilver is like Mopar for Chrysler, a name for their parts and accessories. Probably 100's of QS controls, Frank. Can you get a picture?
