Hello,

I blew a 86 looper last season :eek:. Repowering the boat with essentially a 76' Crossflow.

Problem:

Cables changed in 79' and i don't have the controls that came with the motor.

The motor needs the old style connector for shift/throttle; the controls need the new.

Is there a way to make this work? I bought the old style cable (just a bare wire) and got the engine side connectors from an outboard salvage yard.

Photos:

Older style cable control (at salvage yard). note the huge plastic piece that gets connected in the middle. It's too thick (far as i can tell) for the new control box.

Newer style control box (i own), note the stainless arm. it's too skinny for the old style connector:

Also note, power trim is 3 wire on the "new" motor.

Any ideas? I'm not sure what was made those years. E.G. if i went on ebay could I find a similar control box with a 3 wire built in power tilt/trim switch? Would i have to make power tilt/trim external switches? Is there just a simple adapter i could use?

I did notice that the control cable from the looper kind of fit on. The retainer doesn't fit perfect but seems like it'd stay on. Anyone have comments about just going with the new style cable on the old pre '79 motor? I've seen universal cables. Would they come in something i could use?

:confused::confused::confused:
