I recently purchased a used electric start for my 1970 Manual start Mercury Model 500. As it happens I had a Control Box in my garage that was given to me years ago and it had the right connector for the starter motor. Anyway, instead of removing the old throttle and gear cables, I just left the old ones on and switched the Control boxes. After testing the new starter I thought I would take her for a spin around the lake and immediately discovered that the controls were working in reverse order. That is, when pushing the handle forward the boat went in reverse and when pulling it back, the boat went foreward. Would his be something I connected wrong in the control box (it didn't seem the parts inside the control box could be put in any other position) or maybe I did something to the shift lever on the motor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.....Thanks......
