consuming gear lube

is it normal to consume any gear lube in an alpha 1 gen 2? i have about 40 hours on a 5.0 alpha 1 and the gear lube was down to the add mark on the resivour. does this indicate a leak or is it normal to consume a bit during break in?

ps if there is a blown seal, would my level go up due to water entering the system or down due to oil escaping? does it recirculate up to the resivour?

No

Pull the drive and see if there is oil in the bellows. Common place for a leak
Yes, you can leak oil without sucking in water. Opposing seals allow that to happen.
