In general; how do the Chaparral boats compare to the Regal, Sea Ray or Wellcraft boats?

Looking at a 2001 Chaparral Signature 240 Express Cruiser that has the 7.4 Mercruiser 320 HP motor and 200 hrs. They are asking $21,000 and are stating that this is a low price. Comes with a galv. trailer.

I like the looks of the Chaparral boats and the price seems less than a comparable Regal or Sea Ray. Are the Chaparral's the Chevrolet of the manufactured boat industry where the Regal's and Sea Ray's are the BMW's and Mercedes?

Thanks!

Better than Wellcraft, comparable to Sea Ray & Regal.

No such thing as a 320hp 7.4 in 2001.

Re: Construction quality on Chaparral boats?

I've owned Sea Rays and currently own a 2001 Chaparral 280 SSi, and have a couple of friends with Regals (Mid Cabin adn Ski boat). In my opinion, current years are all about the same. None fall into the BMW or Mercedes, but they are a cut above the Chevy comparison. I would reserve Lexus category for Cobalt. Check this link on a Cobalt on ebay, lots of nice pics, video and one of the best deals I've ever seen on one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-COBALT-323-CRUISER-GEN-A-C-TWIN-375-HP-NO-RESERVE-/130457248551?pt=Power_Motorboats&hash=item1e5fdba327
