So i have a 79 starcraft i just installed a 91 johnson 70hp on it and everything works fine on it but when i plug in the two butt connectors from the oil tank to the motor when i turn the key on i get a constant buzz then when i start the motor it still buzzes, once i unplugged the wires no more buzz, the oil tank is completely full, note i did use the original 70's control box dont know if that matters or not. Any help is appreciated Thanks!

OMCs have 2 alarms - both are buzzers that come from the control until. I have a mid 80s 70Hp, its fairly normal for me to get the low oil buzzer on first start (we use our boat only once ever few months) which is a on/off buzz that keeps going until 2 stroke oil, oil pressure is good. So when I start the boat if the buzzer goes off I pump the oil tank bulb as much as possible this usually stops the buzzer. If not then i turn the motor off, pump teh oil pressure up as much as possible and start her again. This normally sorts that buzzer out.

The 2nd alarms is a constant buzzer that is water temp/engine temp alarm. This means your outboard is over heating.....either you have a water pump issue or the head needs to be pulled and water ports cleaned out as teh water is not circulating cooling the engine enough.

Sounds like the sensor in the tank is bad. Post # 2 has a serious problem with his Vro so may want to be careful about that advice The overheat part is correct.

Dont do this. Pumping the oil bulb means he has a VRO issue and the bulb does not fix it. He either has a bad tank, a bad VRO or a leak in the system. The bulb is ONLY to be used to bleed the system while servicing. I would invite this poster to start his own. Thread and we can diagnose and get him ser up. In the meantime he should be running 50:1 premix.
