Constant beep sound after starting

Just started up my 1996 Chap 1930 Sport after it had sat up for the winter. Filled it with gas and it started but a constant beep sound went off and would not go off. I just bought it last summer (new to boating) and it would beep initially when started but the beep would go off. Looked in owner's manual and it gave a few possibilities but I'm not sure those are the reason. Couldn't be temp because it was cold. Oil pressure guage looked normal. One other reason was drive lubricant. But we just had the gimble bearing replaced.

The boat seem to run fine but we turned it off after the beeping would not stop.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Which engine? Last year when you ran it, would the beep stop the second the engine started or continue for a bit while the engine ran then go off?

I don't believe that the beep stayed on when we took it out last summer. I think it went off as soon as we started it. We only took it out once (labor day) and worked fine all day long.

Check all fluid levels in your boat. The beeping is an audible alarm that is warning you something below the recommended level or is empty.

That's probably exactly why it's going off. You have to remove the outdrive to replace the gimbal bearing. When you do, some oil can leak out of the hose that connect the transom plate to the drive, thus lowering the drive oil reservoir's level. It's very easy to see the reservoir and the two wires that go to it. Unhook them, and see if the alarm stops. Also, look inside the reservoir bottle, Mercruiser gear lube has a bad tendency to "sludge up", so it might really be empty or a gelatinous blob in there, causing the sensor to malfunction. Good luck.
