long time lurker here so whats up guys finally!! bought a 1990 sea ray 180 with a 135 black max. PO had motor bored out last year .20 and it runs great. but when i turn on the key the alarm goes beeeeeeeeeeeeeep and wont stop. i read on this thread that it could be a bad sensor. i traced the tan wire to the temp sensor in the block. i noticed it had a tan and black wire (black was grounded) on the right side of the block same sensor but only had a black wire and not another tan wire. the motor runs great the pee hole water is hot though. impeller and water pump replacement time? i took out the thermostats and replacing them tomorrow. i traced the alarm horn tan wire going to the ignition thats grounding on the tach or speedometer. i grounded the tan wire to another location and no beep. arent i supposed to get two warning beeps at startup? BTW im bringing the motor to a shop this week. any help will appreciate before i fork over the BIG $$$$

thanks!

As you traced it back, it went to a terminal with 3 wires on it. One to the controls, one to the sensor with the black wire, and one to the oil alert. Take them all off. If the alarm still goes off, it's in the harness. If it doesn't, connect back the temp sensor, and the oil alert one at a time. Whichever one sets it off is bad.

The other temp sensor with 2 wires on it is the temp gauge sending unit. It is not connected to the alarm.

hope it helps

If the above does not work I would also disconnect the green mercury kill switch take the ground off if the beep stops the switch is no good. Sometimes the tempsending unit is bad or the connection when this happens this is a cheap part to replace on that motor I think $20 and the Kill switch is around $40.
