Console mount throttle resistance too stiff

Is there an adjustment for the throttle movement resistance on the remote console ? I have a 13' boston whaler/50hp 2 cycle merc, with the quicksilver small chrome console mount control, with trim/tilt on the handle. My control looks similar to P/N 88688A25 on the merc accessories web page.

The Throttle/shift work fine, but there is too much resistance, makes it hard to adjust back to cruise speed after the hole shot. The control seems a little too stiff, and I when I pull back the throttle, the excessive force causes me to overshoot the desired setting.

I can "bump" the thottle with the palm of my hand, but even then it is difficult to get just the right setting without over or under shooting.

Thanks

You may have a cable that is kinked or one that is going bad--Bob

Re: Console mount throttle resistance too stiff

I checked it over a little more last night; I think you guys are right about the bad cable, when the control is moved I can hear a scraping sound which seems to be comming from the cable near the engine, rather than the console area.
Boat/motor is a 1997 which had sat idle quite a bit for the last few years (out of water) before I recently purchased it, so it is probably due for cables.

Are these cables fairly straightfoward to replace ? Engine end seems easy to work on, console end is hard to tell.

Seems like the best way is to remove the engine end of the old cables first, then remove the console control and pull it away from the console and remove the cables, using the old cables to pull the new ones. Then attach new cables to the console first, stuff it back on the panel, and connect the engine end, is this correct ?
