I have a OMC Tackometer year 97 (system check). I want to connect this to a Evinrude 40hk 1994. There are many cables coming out from the Tach. What cables do i need? I know they changed the system 96. The problem is that the tach is for the new system and the engine is for the old system. I just need to get the rpm working not the system chech).

Re: connect OMC tachometer

If your new tach is anything like the one I have here, (teleflex with omc system check) then you only need the first three wires on the plug..

red, black, grey..

grey for tach signal.
black for earth.
red for ignition feed.

that should get your tach working.

never had any luck getting the sys check lights working though.

regards

Frank

To make a System Check tach with its warning lites work on a pre-1996 motor, you will need an adapter kit, listed in the parts and accessory book, and you need a 4-wire VRO pump. The 3 wire ones won't work.
