Alinghi...Winners of the America's Cup.

Alinghi wins 5 to 0 against Team NZ. A fine effort from an excellent and professional team - so well done.

Russell Coutts now holds the record for the most consecutive America's Cup race wins as skipper/helmsman.

The Cup will now go from NZ to Europe.

http://www.cupviews.com

Re: Congratulations Alinghi

Good question Sloopy, considering both teams lost 5 to 0 against Alinghi.... I'd say it could have gone either way (depending on gear failures... ;) )

You seem like a keen follower of the America's Cup - are we going to see you on board one of these boats one day ?

Re: Congratulations Alinghi

Actually, Oracle was able to beat Alinghi in one race, and lost 5-1 in the finals of the LV cup.

It still is a good question. To my eye, the boat speeds were quite similar on all four top boats, One World, Oracle, TNZ, and Alinghi. I think it came down to sailing skill in the end, and is there any doubt in anyone's mind that Russell Coutts and Brad Butterworth are simply the best sailors in the world?

I thought that maybe Team NZ were relying on too many engineering gimmicks which made their boat a little fragile in extreme conditions, but somehow not confident in light wind conditions. I thought there were many opportunities to race in light winds that the committee decided to cancel.

Which brings me to my final point. I think there ought to be a change and have the AC race committee made up of an international group, and not one sponsored by the home team.

But you have to tip your hats to New Zealand. They sure seem to produce the best sailors in the world at present

Re: Congratulations Alinghi

I would like to be the engineer who designs the boats :) I wish I could sail on one of the boats but I don't think that will happen :( . On another note: WHY DID'NT ESPN SHOW THE LAST CUP RACE!, well I found out why! They only had to the first of march to broadcast the cup live, but all those delays ruined it! I wish OLN and Dawn Riley did it. From what I hear OLN broadcasted it in Canada!
