I pulled off the lower water pump housing to replace it. There is only 1 seal in it. The new housing has only 1 seal. Yet when I look at the exploded parts diagram, it shows two (2) oil seals: # 25 (part number 89238) and #26 (part number 16977). Is there one or 2 to replace? Thanks. Pat

I think that is supposed to have 2 seals, one to keep oil in and the other to keep water out.

Correct 2 seals, Most times when replacing water pump parts ,you replace the lower body not just the seals.

Agreed. I have never bought just the seals. Pretty much every time if it needs seals there is wear and tear on the housing.

Thanks for the info. It is interesting that the old water pump base had only one seal, and the new one I just bought only had one seal. So, I guess I will order #25 (the lower seal shown in the exploded diagrams, and figure out where it goes. Pat
