Hi All,

I have a 1998 Harris Kayot deck boat. Engine is a 5.7L 350 serial #0F777836. A Alpha 1 gen 2 drive serial # 0F695548.

I want to get a maintenance/repair manual for both engine and outdrive. I have a couple questions.

1. I see there are several companies that sell manuals.
Mercury, seloc, clymer, etc.
2. Are the manuals seperate for the engine and outdrive?
In other words, do i need a manual for the engine and a seperate one for the outdrive?
3. Is one companies manual better than another's?

i would rather have the original manuals specific to my engine and outdrive, but not sure thats available. Where should i look and which manuals a the best.

Thanks
Tom

get a factory manual for the motor and drive. Seloc, Clymer and Haynes manuals make good wedges for the couch, however are terrible manuals

yes, there are separate manuals for the drive, etc.

you can view the manuals on-line if you want.

Scott,
Are factory manuals impossible to get?
I see on ebay many used factory sterndrive manuals, but nothing specific to my engine? Am I barking up the wrong tree?
Thanks
Tom
UPDATE, Just got off the phone with Mercury. Both manuals are available, but not cheap!
I can get the sterndrive manual off ebay but still have to find the engine manual.

Do not get a Clymer. If you feel like you really want a Clymer, just send me the money and I will give you my phone number. You can call for any question you have and I will answer you with everything I know about these engines. Which is absolutely nothing. Which is still better than a Clymer manual.

We have a Clymer. Between the misspellings, the broken english, and the attempt to put many models in 1 book and having details mixed up between models - it will be a miracle if this thing ever runs again.

I've never been able to find any manuals except for current manufacture from Merc direct off their website. There is an reseller that lists them. I'd be tempted to get one there.

Thanks for everyones input .Talked with mercruiser support and got the manual numbers and manual part numbers that i needed. Needed two for the engine and one for the sterndrive. Got them all used off ebay for allot less than mercury.

I verified the part numbers before purchasing.

On a side note. I found out through talking with mercury support that my engine was made in 95 and not 98 as i thought.
