Hello My Boaters, i have an homemade jon boat and i totally gutted it. Now i been reading here on boat forum and others BUT WHAT CONFUSED me is that everyone was talking about plywood needs to be at least 1 1/2 thick but that is not an overall thickness. Firstly. I have 14'ft Semi- V hull Jon boat. I am replacing "plywood" with aluminium tubing for outboard motor. so my real question is what the OVERALL UNIVERSAL THICKNESS the transom should be???

fiberglass boats 2-1/4" thick.

aluminum boats - 2.0 to 2-1/4"
which is the thickness of 1-1/2" wood and the skins.

if you are replacing the transom wood with aluminum tubing, make sure you fully understand transom loading and how it transfers from the prop to the boat.
