Confirm year of Mercury motor?

Hello,<br /><br />I have purchased another Mercury 35hp outboard recently and need to obtain manuals. However I am having trouble confirming the year. The serial number is A120233. I have been told it's 1989, but I don't think that is correct.<br /><br />Thank you,<br />Bill
